DeLaCruz named North Beach MVP

Senior Wakeena DeLaCruz received the Most Valuable Player award at the North Beach High School girls basketball awards dinner recently.

DeLaCruz also took the Best Defender award and shared the Captain’s Award with Marya Pope. Other team awards:

Most Improved – Alyssa Grossi. Inspirational — Emily Takagi. Ms. Hustle — Maria Garman. Coaches Award — Marya Pope. JV Player of the Year — Paola Robles.

Choker teams swept

Shoreline Community College swept Grays Harbor College, 7-2 and 12-1, in a non-league baseball twinbill Sunday at Shoreline.

Grays Harbor’s softball team also dropped a pair of non-leaguers, falling to Southwestern Oregon, 10-2 and 9-1, at Portland’s Delta Park. Details were not reported.

The Choker baseball team begins a five-game road trip to Tucson, Ariz., on Wednesday. The Chokers play Pima C.C. in a single game Wednesday, then have doubleheaders on tap Friday and Saturday.

Grays Harbor’s softball team returns to action Saturday in the Lower Columbia Inter-Region Tournament.

Hoquiam Youth Baseball tryouts set

Hoquiam Youth Baseball tryouts are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Hoquiam High School. They are open to 10-12-year-olds who are not yet on a major league team.

Registration, open to all boys and girls in the 4-12 age group, also will be accepted at the session.

Poggies to meet Wednesday

A Grays Harbor Poggie Club meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoquiam Elks Hall.
