Hoquiam’s Kelly honored
Hoquiam senior Devin Kelly received the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Prep Athlete of the Week for his classification last week.
Kelly received the honor for Class 2A boys. He rushed for 152 yards and four touchdowns (a fifth was nullified due to a penalty) and scored all his team’s points in Hoquiam’s 39-32 football loss to Tenino on Oct. 25.
District 1A soccer playoff pairings set
Montesano will face Seton Catholic in District IV Class 1A girls soccer playoff scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Aberdeen’s Stewart Field.
The winner of today’s play-in contest advances to the main draw of the district tourney and will travel to White Salmon for a second-round contest at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The loser is eliminated.
Stewart Field will also be the site for Tuesday’s Elma-Castle Rock district contest at 7 p.m.
Admission will be charged for both contests. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $4 for students with ASB cards.
District B volleyball tourneys due
The District IV Class 2B and 1B volleyball tournaments open Tuesday.
Four Twin Harbors teams qualified for the district 2B tourney. Pacific League runner-up South Bend will host one Tuesday doubleheader. The Indians, who draw a first-round bye, will face the Onalaska-Morton/White Pass winner in a quarterfinal. Willapa Valley, North Beach and Ocosta will play first-round contests at other sites.
The remainder of the double-elimination tournament will be staged in Raymond, South Bend and Willapa Valley on Thursday and Saturday. The top five teams earn state berths.
The district 1B tourney also opens Tuesday at the site of the higher-seeded teams. Top-seeded Lake Quinault will receive a forfeit from State Deaf and advances to the semifinals on Saturday. Taholah hosts Pope John Paul in a loser-out contest Tuesday.
The tourney concludes Saturday at Rochester, with the top two teams qualifying for state.
At South Bend: 5:30 p.m. — Onalaska vs. Morton/White Pass. 7 p.m. — South Bend vs. winner Onalaska-Morton/White Pass.
At Northwest Christian: 5:30 p.m. — Ocosta vs. Wahkiakum. 7 p.m. — Northwest Christian vs. winner Ocosta-Wahkiakum.
At Adna: 5:30 p.m. — Willapa Valley vs. Mossyrock. 7 p.m. — Adna vs. winner Willapa Valley-Mossyrock.
At Toutle Lake: 5:30 p.m. — North Beach vs. Napavine; 7 p.m. — Toutle Lake vs. winner North Beach-Napavine.

Lake Quinault receives forfeit from State Deaf and faces Columbia Adventist-Mary M. Knight winner at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Rochester.
Monte Little League to meet
A Montesano Little League meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Nelson Field clubhouse. The meeting is open to the public.
