Elma, Wishkah to host cancer awareness events

The annual Montesano-Elma Cancer Awareness Night for volleyball is scheduled for tonight at Elma.

Both teams will wear pink uniforms. Raffles are scheduled, with donations sought. Proceeds from the event are earmarked for two East County residents who are cancer patients.

Wishkah High School’s annual Dig Pink Volleyball Tournament is planned for Saturday. Lake Quinault, Oakville and the host Loggerettes will compete in a series of exhibition matches, which will run from noon to 5 p.m. A silent auction is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Auction items are sought and spectators are encouraged to wear pink.

The event is part of the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. Proceeds will go to breast cancer awareness programs. Event organizers are hoping to raise more than $2,500.

Hoquiam-Ocosta soccer switched

The Hoquiam-Ocosta girls soccer match, scheduled for Saturday at Olympic Stadium, has been shifted to Westport, HHS athletic director Brian Grun reported.

The switch was due to a field conflict at Olympic Stadium.

Cotton-Swaney team wins disc doubles tourney

The team of Tim Cotton and Jason Swaney defeated Dan Brown and Kurtis Dawson in a three-hole playoff to win a YMCA of Grays Harbor doubles disc golf tournament Saturday at Sam Benn Park.

The two teams finished regulation play at 16-under-par. The teams of Eric Nilsson-Gabe Jacobus and Randy Long-Josh Keith tied for third at 13 under. Competition winners:

Putting — Jason Swaney. Ace race — Josh Keith. Longest drive — Joe Birch. Closest to the pin — Dan Brown.
