Grays Harbor College and Green River Community College exchanged mercy-rule victories in splitting an NWAACC Western Division doubleheader Saturday at Hoquiam’s John Gable Park.
The Chokers pounded out 19 hits in taking the opening game in six innings, 15-7. Surviving three home runs by GHC’s Shannon Glenn, the Gators took the nightcap, 12-4 in five innings.
Amanda Anderson and Jasmine Gilmore homered and every Choker starter collected at least one hit in the opening game. Anderson, Gilmore, Glenn and Kaisha Hollenbeck delivered three hits apiece.
Glenn clubbed three solo homers — including one that cleared the fence by some 25 feet — and Anderson also homered in the second game. But the Gators scored in every inning but the fourth to prevail.
Jill Johnson, the only healthy GHC pitcher, felt the effects of her recent workload, accoding to GHC coach Tom Sutera.
“Jill’s arm was really sore coming into today’s games,” Sutera reported. “She definitely was pitching on borrowed time from the middle of the first game and into the second game. We’re going to have to come up with some relief for her, I’m going to have to figure something out.”
The Chokers (7-3, 12-15) host Centralia in a makeup doubleheader scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop Athletic Complex.
