Three Aberdeen golfers make the cut at district golf tournament

CHEHALIS — Aberdeen’s Eric Hagen is well-positioned to earn a state berth following the opening round of the District IV Class 2A Boys Golf Tournament on Tuesday at the Newaukum Valley Golf Course.

With an opening-round 79, Hagen stands in eighth place entering today’s final round of the 36-hole tournament. Although state allocations have not been officially determined as yet, a minimum of 15 players are expected to advance to state next spring.

Three Bobcats survived the 18-hole cut. Aberdeen’s Justin Cox is tied for 17th following an 84 and Jordan Weiberg also advanced with a 90.

Aberdeen’s Hunter Raines, with a 93, and Griffin Hood, with a 116, failed to make the cut.

Hockinson’s Diego DeLaTorre leads the tournament with a 70.

Although Hagen in particular has shot lower rounds, AHS coach Harley Revel said his team’s play was its most balanced of the season.

“From my top four, every nine we had was in the 40s and below,” he said.
