Aberdeen and Hoquiam will be staying close to home for their district boys soccer openers.
The Evergreen 2A Conference champion Bobcats will be on their home turf for the opening round of the District IV Class 2A tournament tonight.
Aberdeen will face league rival Chehalis in an opening-round contest scheduled for 7 p.m. at Stewart Field.
Since the majority of district contests are scheduled for the site of the highest-seeded team, the league champion Bobcats could be at home for the entire tourney. The possible exceptions would be if they face Greater St. Helens League champion Ridgefield in either a district championship game Thursday or a winner-to-state contest May 11. Both those contests would be at a southern site, but only if the Greater St. Helens has an equally high seed.
Win or lose tonight, Aberdeen’s second-round game against either Capital or Hockinson on Tuesday will be at Stewart Field.
Hoquiam, meanwhile, will also be at Stewart Field for the opening round of the district 1A tourney.
The Evergreen 1A co-champion (but second-seeded) Grizzlies will face Toledo-Winlock in a winner-to-state, loser-out contest scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday. That will be the first half of a Stewart Field doubleheader, with Aberdeen playing either Capital or Hockinson at 7.
With a victory, the Grizzlies will play a state seeding game Thursday probably at Kalama.
Elma will host the winner of tonight’s Woodland-Stevenson playoff game in a district play-in game at noon today at Davis Field. The loser is eliminated, while the winner advances to take on Seton Catholic in a winner-to-state, loser-out contest at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Washougal.
The top-three teams in the 2A tourney and top four in the 1A event advance to state competition the following week.
