ELMA — Jason Tole of Hoquiam notched his sixth hobby stock victory of the season on Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway.
Henry VanDam of Enumclaw took the 360 sprint car main event. The Norton family domination of the hornet classification, with Shane prevailing in the feature race.
Tole shadowed Eddie Blood of Olympia for the early portion of the race before taking the lead on the ninth lap. The Hoquiam driver led the remainder of the distance.
Cory Sweatman of Cosmopolis and Jack Parshall of Hoquiam also overtook Blood, who settled for fourth. Tommy Hecker of Spanaway wound up fifth.
The reigning series points champion, VanDam registered a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the sprint car feature.
VanDam never led until the final lap, when he passed J.J. Hickle of Quilcene. That completed a sweep for the Enumclaw driver, who had won his heat race and also posted the fastest time of the night.
Hickle wound up second, followed by Trey Starks of Puyallup, Evan Margeson of Tacoma and Reece Goetz of Snohomish.
Although the Nortons have been dominant in this classification throughout the season, this was Shane’s first main event win.
He was challenged by Chad Norton in the final laps, but held on for the win. Will Wright was third, Jesarae Norton fourth and Jeff Dobbs fifth.
A points race scheduled for Saturday has been postponed and rescheduled for Oct. 6.
Next up on the Raceway’s schedule will be the season championship race Sept. 29.
