Top-ranked Dragons end North Beach season

SPOKANE — Top-ranked St. George’s limited North Beach to single-digit scoring in all four quarters and ended the Hyaks’ season with a 65-23 victory in the Region II Class 2B Boys Basketball Tournament on Saturday at Mount Spokane High School.

The Hyaks’ season ended with a 14-12 record. The Dragons advance to the state 2B tourney beginning on Thursday in Spokane.

Making 58 percent of their field-goal attempts, the Dragons had three players score in double figures. They surged ahead of the Hyaks 43-10 at halftime.

In the 26-point second quarter, St. George’s players only missed four shots and hit six 3-pointers.

Corey Thornton led the Hyaks with seven points.

“I am proud of the way the kids played this year,” said Hyaks head coach Larry Moore. “We made it to the regionals, but we could not slow them (the Dragons) down. It was a tough competition, but we played hard. This was a good group of kids this year.”

Moore cited seniors Joseph Wagner and Tyler Turner for their leadership all season.
