The Old Sport has finally figured out another reason for our thus-far mediocre predicting average (presently 9-7, or .563). Each week to date, there has been one forfeiture among the games scheduled, thus robbing us thus far of two or three of our cherished gimmes.
In order to compensate, the Old Sport was tempted this week to predict (fearlessly) South Bend over Open Date. We decided against it, but it was a split decision.
HOQUIAM at MONTESANO: Biggest game of the week and the toughest to pick.
Last week we determined not to pick against a team (Monte) that had just beaten Aberdeen by 38 points.
As it developed, the Bulldogs did lose although they probably shouldn’t have. Now they’re facing a team that beat Aberdeen by 43. And although we don’t like it, we’ve got to pick one of them to lose. It’ll probably be for the last time this season in either case. Our shaky nod goes to HHS and all that speed… GRIZZLIES 29, BULLDOGS 27.
ELMA at TENINO: Beavers look to have sharp teeth this year, and they’ve been busy. Eagles look to be on the verge of busting out, but probably not this week…BEAVERS 34, EAGLES 24.
CENTRALIA at ABERDEEN: Unlike the first two outings, the Cats look to have a real shot in this one, but …TIGERS 27, BOBCATS 20.
WINLOCK at RAYMOND: Two teams in search of win No. 1. Gulls have probably been facing tougher opposition…GULLS 26, CARDINALS 20.
OCOSTA at WILLAPA VALLEY: Vikes apparently back in their customary winning form… VIKINGS 35, WILDCATS 13.
NORTH BEACH at NASELLE: Both of these clubs look to be on the upswing. On their home turf, Comets get the nod…COMETS 24, HYAKS 14.
TAHOLAH at LUMMI: Chitwhins face a long trip and probably an unhappy ending…BLACKHAWKS 48, CHITWHINS 24.
NEAH BAY vs. WISHKAH at QUINAULT: This one a hasty schedule switcheroo after Quinault, the Loggers’ scheduled opponent, ran out of healthy troops. That figures to make it a lot harder for Wishkah to stay unbeaten…RED DEVILS 50, LOGGERS 26.
