Uncle Ray’s Raspberry

The Old Sport’s unbeaten string came to a halt last week, as he had to settle for just 6 out of 8 on last week’s picks. As it turned out, our pick of Jewell, Ore., over Ocosta was less than glittering.

And we went for the Bobcats to win, which should have happened but didn’t.

That leaves us with a season mark of 38-11, for an average of .776.

We’ll settle for that and try this bunch, which happily includes at least three or four of our treasured gimmes:

WASHOUGAL at ABERDEEN: Our pick of AHS to win was at least correct for a half last week. Playing at home, maybe the Bobcats can make it last the whole game…BOBCATS 26, PANTHERS 21.

HOQUIAM at RAINIER: Grizzlies are unbeaten. Mounties are winless. Somehow, we figure it to stay that way…GRIZZLIES 40, MOUNTIES 6.

MONTESANO at TENINO: Tenino was unbeaten before absorbing a 40-6 thumping last week from a good La Center team. This one should make the Beavers all even with Monte in the twice-beaten ranks…BULLDOGS 28, BEAVERS 16.

NASELLE at RAYMOND: This has all the looks of a tossup, so we’ll give our tremulous nod to the homestanding Seagulls…GULLS 22, COMETS 20.

SOUTH BEND at NORTH BEACH: Unhappily, this one doesn’t look to be a tossup. North Beach prevailed in an earlier meeting 54-0. We look for the Tribe to make this one closer…HYAKS 42, INDIANS 12.

ELMA at ILWACO: Eagles have been having their vicissitudes, but this one ought to enhance their perspective…EAGLES 34, FISHERMEN 18.

NAPAVINE at OCOSTA: Wildcats riding a two-game win string, which unhappily figures to come to grief here.. .TIGERS 33, WILDCATS 13.

WISHKAH at OAKVILLE: Loggers should find winless Acorns easy picking…LOGGERS 62, ACORNS 20.

TAHOLAH at KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN: Homestanding Knights are devoid of seniors but still potent. This one figures to be s squeaker…CHITWHINS 48, KNIGHTS 40.
