Divisional playoffs for former members of the dissolved Coastal Basketball League are scheduled to open Thursday.
The divisional playoffs were mandated by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Executive Board after granting Taholah’s appeal of a postseason ban recommended by District IV schools.
The WIAA established the format for the divisional playoffs, which consist of winner-to-district, loser-out games determined by blind draw. All games will be played at neutral sites, although none had been announced at press time.
Divisional winners advance to a bi-district (districts IV and V) tournament that opens Feb. 9.
The blind draw created some unusual pairings, particularly on the girls side of the draw.
Taholah and Mary M. Knight, almost universally regarded as two of the top girls teams in the division, will square off in a loser-out contest.
Wishkah’s girls, winners of one game entering Friday’s action, will automatically advance to the bi-district tourney. The Loggerettes were drawn against North River, which was unable to field a girls team this season.
The divisional playoff draw:
Oakville vs. Lake Quinault (girls at 6, boys at 8 p.m.)
North River vs. Wishkah (boys only at 6 p.m.)
Mary M. Knight vs. Taholah (girls at 6 p.m., boys at 8).
