Although they haven’t won many popularity contests in the Northwest since beating the Seattle Seahawks in controversial fashion in Super Bowl XL, the Pittsburgh Steelers are fast becoming one of Sports Editor Rick Anderson’s favorite teams.
For the second straight week, a Steeler victory helped Anderson expand his lead in The Daily World Pro Football Forecasting Contest.
Pittsburgh’s upset of Baltimore helped Anderson take weekly honors with a 10-5 record. At 66-35 overall (a .653 percentage), he owns a four-game lead on Vidette reporter David Haerle (9-6 last week) and a five-game advantage over sports writer Rob Burns (8-7).
Guest forecaster Jerry Weber also went 9-6 and failed to unseat his son, Dan Weber, for the season lead in the Guest Forecaster of the Year competition.
Kristof Aho of Montesano is this week’s guest. A 2001 graduate of Aberdeen High School, where he participated in wrestling, football and track, Aho is an officer with the Shoalwater Bay Police Department. His favorite NFL teams are (predictably) the Seattle Seahawks and (more unexpectedly) the Cincinnati Bengals.
The panel unanimously agrees on a Seahawk victory at St. Louis on Monday night. Burns is so confident of that outcome that he considers it his (non-Jaguars division) Lock of the Week. A moratorium continues on picking Jacksonville opponents in the Lock of the Week category.
Openings remain for six guest forecasters this season. Applicants are asked to phone Anderson at 537-3924 or email to email@example.com.
