One night before Aberdeen travels to Hoquiam for their annual rivalry dual meet at Hoquiam Square Garden, the Grizzlies split a league double dual, while the Bobcats got a night’s rest.
At Tenino, Hoquiam picked up an Evergreen 1A tri-meet split with the host Beavers and Rainier.
At Elma, the girls teams gathered for a mix-and-match meet, with the host Eagles greeting Hoquiam and others.
Aberdeen and Black Hills were scheduled for Wednesday night, but the match was moved to January 16 at Sam Benn Gym.
Evergreen 1A tri-meet
TENINO — A batch of forfeits broke up the flow of the matches for Hoquiam, but a split with Tenino and Rainier was the result on Wednesday night.
Against host Tenino, the Grizzlies picked up a batch of forfeits and Tristan Stutesman registered the only contested match win in a 40-29 loss. Against Rainier, the two teams split the six contested matches, but the Grizzlies prevailed, 39-33.
“It is a slow start for us, but the kids are getting better every week,” HHS head coach Fidel Sanchez said. “We’re starting to get guys back in the lineup and some of the guys are making good moves out there on the mat.”
Stutesman was the only double winner of the day for Hoquiam at 132 pounds. Against Caleb Strown in the Tenino duel, Stutesman earned a 12-10 win. During the Rainier duel, Stutesman decisioned Tyler Wentworth, 8-2.

ELMA — A mix-and-match duel meet between several schools took place for girls wrestling teams on Wednesday.
For Hoquiam, it went 3-3 in its matches. Sam King registered a win at 155 pounds by decision, while Lindsay Leonard (190) and Taylor Walker (155) each finished with pins in the second round of their matches.
Reyna Sanchez (118) and Briann Mitchell (124) lost by pin in the second round and Shiianna Anderson (112) lost by decision.
HHS girls coach Marissa Aube cited Leonard, a first-year wrestler, for her win; King, for her aggressiveness in her win, and Taylor for her all-around performance.
