Logano wins NASCAR Michigan race

BROOKLYN, Mich. — Joey Logano grabbed his first win for Penske Racing in today’s Pure Michigan 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway.

“You have no idea — this is unbelievable,” said Logano, who was the pole-sitter. “We needed this for our Chase hopes … in Ford’s backyard. This is so cool.”

Logano, 23, who drives the No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil Ford Fusion, moved from 16th to 13th in series points.

He overtook veteran Mark Martin with three laps left after Martin ran out of fuel.

Kevin Harvick finished second in his Chevrolet to Logano, with Kurt Busch third in his Chevy.

“We bet on Joey when we hired him,” said Penske Racing team owner Roger Penske. “He certainly showed that trust today.”

Defending Cup champ Brad Keselowski, who led late in the race, eventually finished 12th in his Ford.
