Oakland bombs torch Iwakuma

SEATTLE — Yoenis Cespedes crushed two of Oakland’s four home runs to help Bartolo Colon win his seventh straight start in a 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field on Friday.

The 40-year-old Colon (10-2) tossed eight solid innings in Friday’s opener, with his lone blemish coming in the form of rookie Nick Franklin’s three-run homer in the third.

Colon gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four to extend his longest personal winning streak since a career-high eight-game run from July 21-Sept. 10, 2005.

Mariner pitcher Hitashi Iwakuma (7-3), who had given up only two home runs all season, surrendered three blasts Friday.

Cespedes’ first home run in the first inning, was a mammoth shot off the facing of the upper deck in left field.

Grant Balfour closed the door in the ninth to earn his 18th save.
