WSU lands coveted quarterback

PULLMAN — After some morning angst, Washington State got a big boost Wednesday with a national letter of intent from its most highly touted football prospect, Brophy Prep (Phoenix) quarterback Tyler Bruggman.

Bruggman had committed to WSU in June, a four-star prospect picking the Cougars over the local school, Arizona State. Then ASU moved quickly to secure a commitment from quarterback Joshua Dobbs of Alpharetta, Ga.

But Tennessee had a coaching change, firing Derek Dooley and hiring Butch Jones in December, and at the 11th hour, Dobbs “flipped” from ASU to Tennessee.

That apparently fueled reports that Bruggman was getting a late rush from the Sun Devils. But Bruggman signed with the Cougars around noon Wednesday, allowing a lot of WSU fans to breathe a sigh of relief.
