Harbor golfers qualify for district

John Sand of Hoquiam placed second in his age group in the first Washington Junior Golf Association subdistrict tournament of the season on Thursday at Fircrest Country Club near Tacoma.

Sand carded a 74 to place two strokes behind winner R.J. Manke of Lakewood.

Eric Hagen of Aberdeen placed 11th with an 87. Sand and Hagen both qualified for the WJGA district tourney next month at Indian Summer Country Club in Olympia.

Pepsi Night due at Raceway

Competition is scheduled for three classifications tonight at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma.

Tonight’s program has been designated as Pepsi Night, sponsored by Harbor Pacific Bottling Company. The pit gates will open at 2:30 p.m., with the front gates opening at 4:30 and racing scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Competition will be in the Street Stocks, midgets and hornets. The Northwest Extreme sprint cars were also scheduled to appear, but that race was canceled. The Extreme Sprints are scheduled for Harbor Classic weekend, Sept. 1-2.

Hoquiam Youth football sign-ups set

Hoquiam Youth Football registration is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the YMCA of Grays Harbor.

Registration will be accepted for both players and cheerleaders, from kindergarten through sixth grade.

Signups for the Youth Football Camp planned July 9-11 at Olympic Stadium will also be accepted. The camp, which will run from 6 to 8 p.m., is open to kindergarten through eighth-grade students. The camp registration fee is $40, which includes the cost of a T-shirt.

Bearcats idle this weekend

The Grays Harbor Bearcats draw a bye in the Pacific Football League schedule this week.

The Bearcats will close out their regular season by hosting the Seattle Stallions on June 29.
