World Grid Guesses for Oct. 5, 2013

For the second consecutive week, a Seattle Seahawks game looms as crucial in The Daily World Pro Football Forecasting Contest.

Seattle’s dramatic comeback for an overtime victory over Houston last week not only kept the Hawks unbeaten, but enabled Sports Editor Rick Anderson and Vidette reporter David Haerle to share weekly honors with 9-5 records. They also remained deadlocked for the season lead at 37-22.

Had the Texans hung on for the victory, sports writer Rob Burns would have made it a three-way tie at the top of the standings. As it was, he went 8-6 and slipped two games off the pace. Noted for his late-season comebacks in this contest, Burns is unruffled by the setback.

Guest forecaster Bryan Schneider, whose weekend may have been at least partially spoiled by the Seattle victory (he said his favorite NFL team was “whoever is playing the Seahawks”), wound up 6-9 for the week.

Seattle’s road test on Sunday at Indianapolis again provided division among the panelists. While Anderson, Burns and guest forecaster Eric Potts predict a Seahawk victory, Haerle takes the Colts.

A 1998 graduate of Aberdeen High School, where he was a two-time all-league defensive back and a three-year letterman in football and and basketball, Potts is the director of admissions and outreach at Grays Harbor College.

The Seahawks are his favorite pro team, but he reserves his greatest athletic passion for Washington State University football. He graduated from WSU in 2002.
