Coming to a bookstore near you (or, given the lack of hard-cover bookstores in the Aberdeen-Hoquiam area, possibly to one in Olympia), The Art of Forecasting NFL Cliffhangers, by Vidette reporter David Haerle.
Shrewdly anticipating late comebacks by Buffalo, Houston, Arizona and Chicago (plus Kansas City registering a one-point win over favored Dallas), Haerle vaulted into a three-game lead in The Daily World Pro Football Forecasting Contest.
His 13-2 record last week gave him a season mark of 22-8. Daily World Sports Editor Rick Anderson (11-4 last week) and sports writer Rob Burns (9-6) are now tied for second.
Guest forecaster Rod Bremer went 10-5 last week.
Taking a swing at this week’s games is guest forecaster Brandon Peterson, the assistant golf professional at Grays Harbor Country Club.
A 2007 graduate of Aberdeen High School, Peterson played baseball and golf for the Bobcats and later was a member of the Grays Harbor College and Pacific Lutheran University golf teams. He is an ardent Seattle Seahawks fan.
Haerle didn’t disclose which of this week’s games will be decided in the final minute, but it’s probable he excluded the Seattle-Jacksonville and Denver-Oakland contests from that list.
The panel is unanimous on a Seahawk victory over the Jaguars, with three members selecting that outcome as the Lock of the Week.
