CHEHALIS — Recording its fifth shutout in six games, Aberdeen remained unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over Chehalis in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys soccer game Tuesday at Bearcat Stadium.
The Bobcats (4-0, 6-0) will enter spring break in a virtual tie with Capital for the league lead.
Playing on a grass field for the only time in league play, Aberdeen outshot the Bearcats, 12-5, but had difficulty finishing its opportunities. One goal in each half, however, proved sufficient.
Seth Caba chased down a long cross from Mateus Duarte in the 36th minute and blasted in a shot from close range.
Aberdeen used its passing game to set up its final goal with about 13 minutes remaining. On the receiving end of passes from Duarte and Cesar and Victor Corona, Isaiah Contreraras beat the goalkeeper on a breakaway from about 12 yards out.
Bobcat goalkeeper Andres Valdes recorded another shutout. The Coronas, Duarte, Seth Caba, Juan Ayala and Alex Barene were cited by Bobcat coach Larry Fleming for fine play.
“Tonight, we played pretty well considering it was on grass and on a narrow field,” Fleming said. “We endured some tough fouls, but kept our composure and won the game with intensity, focus and by playing great soccer.”
The Bobcats also took the JV match, 6-0. Jesse Paik, Alejandro Felipe, Warren Pratt, Terrance Robin, Damon McCormick and Anthony Churlin scored one goal apiece for Aberdeen.
Aberdeen will be idle until visiting Centralia on April 10.
