MADISON, Wisconsin — Blake Rose of Montesano graduated in May from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Master of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering.

ADELPHI, Maryland — Ashleigh Meinke of Montesano was named to the spring 2022 dean’s list at the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Grays Harbor Inc. announces free workshops

Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. has announced dates for its “Ask the Expert, Lunch & Learn” series. Funded by the Grays Harbor Community Foundation, this six-part campaign brings local business leaders to the table with their peers to share best practices and lessons learned.

The session dates and topics include:

Monday, Aug. 8: Marketing 101 and development of your brand.

Monday, Aug. 15: Website essentials, using social media tools effectively and free digital tools to help you market your business.

Monday, Aug. 22; Recruiting, retaining and developing employees.

Monday, Aug. 29: Preparing for the holiday season and selling goods and services online.

Monday, Sept. 12: Building A culture of customer service.

Monday, Sept. 19: Developing Resiliency in Your Small Business and Know Your Business Financial.s

Each event will be hosted at the Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. office, 506 Duffy St. in Aberdeen. The workshops are free to attend and open to any business or organization and their staff, including those thinking about starting a business in the county. Lunch is included and preregistration is required for each individual event.

Mark E. Reed scholarships awarded

SHELTON — Six Grays Harbor County residents recently received the 2022 Mark E. Reed Scholarships.

Molly Johnston is a 2019 graduate of Elma High School and is the daughter of Mark and Brenda Johnston. She attends Linfield College in Oregon and studies elementary education. This is Molly’s fourth award.

Kaelyn Burgher attends Western Washington University and studies elementary education. She is a 2020 graduate of Elma High School and this is her second award. Kaelyn is the daughter of Jayson and Jessica Burgher.

Kaleb Myers will study electrical engineering at Washington State University. He is a 2022 graduate of Aberdeen High School and this is his first award. Kaleb is the son of Roy and Shawna Myers.

Carolyn Hewitt studies biology and art at Gonzaga University. She is a 2021 graduate of Montesano High School and this is her first award. Carolyn is the daughter of James and Jane Hewitt.

Tucker Potts will attend University of Montana Western and plans to study business. He is a 2022 graduate of Elma High School and this is his first award. Tucker is the son of Vince and Darcy Potts.

Jerred Bailey is a 2022 graduate of Elma High School and is the son of Jerry and Jamie Bailey. He will attend Northwest Lineman College in Meridian, Idaho, to become an electrical lineworker. This is Jerred’s first award.

This is the 75th year that scholarships have been presented in memory of Mark E. Reed, who was Simpson Logging Company’s president from 1914 until his passing in 1933. Today, an eligible individual must be a Green Diamond employee, a son or daughter of an employee, or reside in one of the company’s Washington operating communities.

The recipients each received a $3,000 scholarship during a dinner celebration at the Colonial House in Mason County.
