Elma’s Meister excels for Southern Oregon

Elma High School graduate Carly Meister is among the top players on Southern Oregon University’s women’s basketball team.

A 6-foot-2 sophomore, Meister is second on the team in scoring with a 14.4-point per game average. She leads the club in rebounding (7.8 per game) and blocked shots (17 for the season).

Southern Oregon has a 16-5 season record.

Harbor wrestlers qualify for league meet

Five members of the Montesano Mad Dog Wrestling Club qualified for the Pierce County Junior Wrestling League championships during a qualifying tournament recently.

Montesano’s Mateo Sanchez won the 100-pound title in his age group. Jack Jordan was second at 96 pounds and Cole Ekerson third at 58 pounds. Jacob Bowers (69 pounds) and Ty Ekerson (70 pounds) each placed sixth.

Former Cowboy Brent sentenced to jail

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent has been sentenced to 180 days in jail, two days after he was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter for a December 2012 automobile accident that killed a former teammate.
