OYEHUT — Although short-handed with its girls squad, Montesano swept team honors in the North Beach Invitational powerlifting meet on Saturday.
A seven-woman Montesano girls team nipped North Beach, 42-38, for the team title. The Bulldog boys scored 54 points to finish 13 points ahead of runner-up Shelton.
Montesano’s Noah Ewing, who hoisted a combined 1,365 pounds to win the boys 198-pound championship, was named the meet’s Outstanding Male Lifter.
Other Bulldog male champions included Tanner Birdsall at 148 pounds (1,060 pounds) and Jake Massoth in the unlimited class (1,390 pounds). North Beach’s Max Howard, at 114 pounds (590 pounds) and Jacob McCabe-Brown at 165 pounds (1,135 pounds) and Elma’s Wesley Allen, at 123 pounds (820 pounds) also won their divisions.
Montesano’s Ashley Laney at 105 pounds (560), Rayna Ashlock at 114 pounds (640), Lyndsy Quinn at 148 pounds (650) and Corrie Stewart at 165 pounds (820) were among the girls champions. Host North Beach crowned three titlists — Kasey Hearn at 97 pounds (410 pounds), Shyanne Morrow at 198 pounds (740) and Dakota Dycus at unlimited (850).
Despite conflicts with regional basketball tournaments, 145 lifters competed at North Beach.
“I thought it was a really good meet for our young kids,” Montesano coach Eric Stanfield reported. “North Beach put on a great meet, they did a really nice job out there.”
The next meet is the Snohomish Invitational on March 29.
