Choker men rally from 15 down for road win


LONGVIEW — Grays Harbor College came from far back to overtake Lower Columbia College, 85-69, in the men’s half of an NWACC Western Division co-ed basketball doubleheader on Saturday at Longview.

Lower Columbia won the women’s game, 77-48. Details from that contest were unavailable.

The Red Devils (4-4, 6-11) led 45-30 at halftime.

The Chokers (3-5, 6-12) were outrebounded by six at the half, but outboarded the Red Devils by 15 in the second half.

Bryan McGriff led the Chokers with a double-double—-27 points and 10 rebounds. Tim Straughter also had a double-double—-13 points and 10 rebounds. Cameron Ladson dished up three assists to go with his eight points.

Cameron Howell led the Red Devils with 18 points.

“The 15-rebound swing was the difference in the ball game and gave us the win,” said Choker coach Jordan Altman. “It was a great team effort.”

The Chokers will hit the road to Tacoma Community College next Saturday. The Choker women (1-7, 3-13) have a road game against the George Fox junior varsity on Wednesday.

Halftime: Lower Columbia 45, Grays Harbor 30.
