Cold-shooting Viking girls fall to Adna

MENLO — Two severe droughts proved fatal to Willapa Valley in a 42-37 non-league girls basketball loss to Adna on Thursday at Tenoski Gym.

The defeat snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Vikings (8-2).

After leading 14-9 after one quarter, the Vikings went scoreless for the final 5 1/2 minutes of the first half and ended the game with a 4:11 scoring drought.

Valley shot 28 percent from the field and made only 1 of 8 free throws.

“We missed a lot of shots that we shouldn’t have missed,” Viking coach Matt Bannish said. “You can’t shoot that way and exopect to win.”

Valley’s Brooke Harden led all scorers with 16 points. Sydney Wilkeson grabbed eight rebounds and was cited by Bannish for a strong second-half performance. Lauren Friese contributed seven rebounds and five assists.

Grace Elliott paced Adna with 15 points.

The Vikings resume Pacific League play Saturday at home against North Beach.
