FRISCO, Texas — Clint Dempsey netted two goals on Sunday and the Seattle Sounders handed FC Dallas its first defeat of the season with a 3-2 victory at Toyota Stadium.
FC Dallas opened the scoring in the 10th minute with some good fortune as a long ball over the top took an awkward bounce over the head of Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei, which allowed David Texeira to walk it into the net.
The Sounders responded in the 22nd minute when Dempsey ripped a magnificent free kick from distance that hit the under side of the crossbar before crossing the line for the goal.
But the tide turned in favor of the hosts in the 42nd minute when Sounders defender DeAndre Yedlin brought down Texeira in the box, resulting in a penalty kick which was dispatched by Michel for a 2-1 halftime lead.
But again the Sounders drew level with a bit of luck in the 76th minute when a cross from Dempsey on the right flank was directed into the net by FC Dallas defender Stephen Keel for the own goal.
The winner came in the 85th minute as Dempsey worked a quick one-two with Chad Barrett before smashing it into the roof of the net to complete his double.
The result sees the Sounders improve to 10 points from their first six matches, while FC Dallas suffers its first defeat of the season, but remains on top of the West with 13 points.
