Elma boys fall in Seaside title game

SEASIDE, Ore. — An untimely drought scuttled Elma’s title hopes in the boys portion of the Seaside Holiday Classic.

Mustering only one field goal in the fourth quarter, the Eagles fell to Central Linn, Ore., 40-33, in the championship game Saturday night.

The Eagles (4-2) took a 28-25 lead into the fourth quarter, but connected on only 1-of-12 shots from the field. The Cobras grabbed a permanent lead with about four minutes remaining.

“It was a defensive battle again,” Elma coach Marvin Prince said. “I’m disappointed in the sense we didn’t get thewin but proud of the way the kids responded. All the coaches said (my) kids played hard and they did, they played hard.”

Tyson Nauman paced the Eagles with 11 points, while Chance Bremer grabbed nine rebounds.

Elma guard Ryan Collin received the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award. Bremer was also selected to the all-tournament club.

Elma’s girls fell to Sisters, Ore., in the game to decide third and fifth places. The score and details were not reported.

The Eagle boys visit Adna in a makeup game Monday. Elma’s girls (4-3) travel to Ridgefield on Dec. 30.
