Sophomore basketball standouts Bryan McGriff and Marlee Chovich and softball slugger Shannon Glenn received major year-end awards at Grays Harbor College recently.
McGriff earned the O.R. Austin Outstanding Male Athlete award. A transfer from San Francisco City College, he finished fourth in the NWAACC in season scoring with a 24.5 per game average. He shot nearly 50 percent from the field and 81 percent from the foul line. McGriff was also 11th in the conference in rebounding with an 8.5 per game average.
He is scheduled to continue his basketball career at Eastern Oregon University.
Chovich received the Craig Wellington Outstanding Female Athlete honor. A native of Lake Oswego, Ore., Chovich tranferred to GHC from the Merchant Marine Academy and became the Chokers’ starting point guard last winter.
Having earned a 3.5 grade point average, she has received a presidential scholarship from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., where she plans to play basketball next winter.
Glenn received the Neal Eddy Outstanding Academic Achievement in Athletics award after compiling a 3.85 grade point average. She was also a member of the college’s student government and PTK programs and donated considerable time to the athletic department’s social media campaign.
An Aberdeen High graduate, Glenn excelled in softball. She batted .380 with 18 home runs and 64 RBIs this past season. She plans to attend Nevada-Las Vegas next fall.
