Hoquiam advances to title round in two divisions of state Babe Ruth softball tourney

Hoquiam’s 12-U and 10-U all-stars advanced to their respective title rounds of the State Babe Ruth Softball Tournament with a pair of victories Saturday at John Gable Park.

Tauni Hilliard struck out 13 as the Hoquiamites downed Othello, 6-2, in the winners bracket final of the 10-U tournament. Charli Eastman hit a two-run triple for the host club.

After coming from behind for a 19-11 win over Othello in the final game of pool play Friday night, Hoquiam took command Saturday with a five-run first inning.

Hoquiam had opened bracket play with an 11-1 rout of West End of Forks. Hilliard and Hailey Wilson combined on a two-hitter in that game.

Wilson and Annie Boyle each tripled and singled, while Eastman hit a solo homer for Hoquiam.

Hoquiam’s 12-U all-stars edged Bellingham in the winners bracket final of that age group. Details were unavailable.

The title round of both the 10-U and 12-U tourney begins at noon today.

The 14-U and 16-U championships will also be decided, with Hoquiam facing Bellingham in the 14-U division and Hoquiam taking on West End in the 16-U title round.

The best-of-three-game series in those age groups begin at 10 a.m.
