KELSO — Hoquiam’s Taylor Walker won the A Bracket 170-pound title at the prestigious Kelso Invitational girls wrestling tournament on Saturday.
Walker defeated Franklin Pierce’s Kacie Moorehouse and Stadium’s Latina Taurese, the state’s second and third-ranked wrestlers in the 170-pound class, in her final two matches. The victory over Moorehouse came in the title contest.
“It was a very impressive performance,” Hoquiam coach Alex White said. “Normally, (Taylor) throws a lot. We encouraged her to work on a diffrerent technique and she beat the girl in the semifinal without throwing her once.”
Walker was the only Harborite to place in the A Bracket.
Hoquiam’s Bree Hyder was second at 106 pounds and teammate Emma Skinner was sixth at 124 pounds in the B Bracket.
