Klein finishes tied for eighth at state women’s senior amateur tourney


PORT LUDLOW — Hoquiam’s Gretchen Klein capped off a tough three-day walk around Port Ludlow Golf Course on Thursday.

At the three-day Washington State Women’s Senior Amateur Championships, Klein finished tied for eighth place overall at 39-over 255 in the gross division. Alison Murdoch, of Victoria, B.C., won the state senior title at 17-over 233.

Klein was 11th overall in the gross division at 18-over 234.

Klein wasn’t the only known Harborite at Port Ludlow over the past three days.

Former Grays Harborite Ann Swanson competed in the Washington State Women’s Super Senior Amateur Championship, which was held at the same time.

Swanson, who now lives in Bellevue, finished third overall at 43-over 258. She carded the lowest score of the final round at 10-over 82.

Lakewood’s Carol Dick won the super senior title at 33-over 248.
