RAYMOND — Luke Abbott, a Raymond High School football assistant coach for the past two seasons, has been promoted to head coach, Raymond athletic director Jason Koski reported Friday.
Abbott succeeds Rob Clements, who resigned last month and announced his intention to seek a position on a college football staff.
A former assistant at Chehalis and Timberline high schools, Abbott was the defensive coordinator on Raymond’s state Class 2B semifinal team last fall.
“We are excited to have Luke move into the head coaching position,” Koski wrote in an email. “Although this is a new challenge for him personally, it is a natural move for us as a school.”
Rockey to coach Elma soccer
ELMA — Scott Rockey has been appointed the head girls soccer coach at Elma High School, athletic director Rick Rakevich announced this week.
He succeeds Chris Schumacher, who resigned to become Grays Harbor College’s head coach.
Rockey has coached youth soccer in the East County area for several years and is also a past high school assistant coach at Elma and Montesano.
“His (youth) teams have had a lot of success at the local and state level,” Rakevich said.
Rockey teaches science and math at Elma High School.
