The Daily World Pro Football Forecasting panel has split along geographical lines on this weekend’s Seattle-San Francisco games.
Sports Editor Rick Anderson and guest forecaster Brendan Carl, both Northwest natives, pick the Seahawks to continue rolling on Sunday’s trip to San Francisco. Transplanted Northern Californians Rob Burns and David Haerle pick their beloved 49ers.
With a 12-4 record last week, Anderson (115-65-1 overall, a .639 percentage) regained a two-game lead over Haerle (10-6) in the season standings. Burns, 11-5 last week, trails by eight games.
His bid to become the first three-time Guest Forecaster of the Year dashed by Sunday morning, Hoquiam High boys basketball coach Curtis Eccles went 9-7 last week.
This week’s contest could be advertised as the Daily World/Vidette Challenge.
A 2005 graduate of North Beach High School (where he played football and golf) and a former Grays Harbor College golfer, Carl recently joined the Vidette as its sports reporter. He spent the last three years working for the Buffalo Bulletin, a weekly newspaper in Buffalo, Wyo.
Carl describes himself as a die-hard Seattle sports fan who “can be found most Sundays wearing his No. 12 FAN jersey.” Haerle, in particular, would rather spend his weekends undergoing waterboard torture than to don a Seahawk uniform.
No stakes, incidentally, have been set for the winning team in the Daily World/Vidette Challenge. Anderson’s idea of doubling the salaries of the winning duo is unlikely to pass muster at the management level.
