Wrestling: Eagles win four titles at Forks

FORKS — Elma wrestlers won four titles at the Forks Invitational on Saturday.

The Eagles had six finalists in taking third in the team competition. Forks took team honors with Port Angeles second.

Elma’s Tanner Sample won the 138-pound title with a 3-2 win over Forks’ Ricky Barragan. Teammate Tyson Dick finished over Forks’ Javier Contreras by technical fall, 15-0, in the 145-pound championship.

Eagle 152-pounder Austin Cristelli decisioned Abisai Garcia of Forks, 6-0, in the title match of his division. Brek McGaughy produced Elma’s fourth title by nipping Forks’ Gavin Castanada, 3-1, at 220 pounds.

Elma’s Jayden Olson dropped a 4-0 decision to Port Angeles’ Ozzie Swagerty in the 126-pound title match. Juanita’s Mason McDaniel pinned Elma’s Steven Persell in 1:10 of their 170-pound final.

“They came out fired up and looked sharp,” Elma coach Jason Dick said of his finalists. Olson and Persell were making their first-ever appearances in a tournament final.

Elma’s Ricardo Romero placed fourth at 132 pounds.

The Eagles will split their squad between the Blaine Border Clash and Foss junior varsity tournaments next weekend.

Yelm Jump-On-In tourney

YELM — Two Grays Harbor wrestlers were among the champions at the Yelm Jump-On-In Ladies Classic on Saturday.

Hoquiam’s Taylor Walker took a close decision over a Franklin Pierce wrestler in the 170-pound title match. Elma’s Caitlynn Julian prevailed in the 106-pound division.

Hoquiam’s Shiianna Anderson placed third at 112 pounds and teammate Mariah Nelle was third at 100 pounds.

“We took four seniors and four freshmen and they all did great,” Grizzly coach Alex White said. “That was a great eye-opener for us.”

Elma’s Anna Dick finished third at 170 and Rocky Weston fifth at 130.
