Longtime AHS track, cross country coach steps down

Sherrie Green, Aberdeen High School’s track and cross country coach for several years, has resigned both positions.

Green and her husband, Aberdeen police captain John Green, will be moving to the Mount Vernon area, where she has accepted a middle school teaching position. The couple’s two children live in that area.

“It was a very hard thing to do because I loved coaching at Aberdeen High School,” Green said Tuesday. “Turning in that resignation letter was very difficult.”

Green has coached Aberdeen cross country for seven years and has been the head track coach for the past two years. She had served as a track assistant for the previous two years and had been active as a volunteer assistant.

She received the Evergreen 2A Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year award in 2010, when the Bobcat boys won the league team championship and earned a state berth.

A teacher at Montesano’s Beacon Elementary School for the past four years, Green will be teaching seventh grade resource for special education at Mount Vernon.

“They’ve told me of a very high possibility of coaching there, which helps in the transition,” she concluded.
