Aberdeen honored its seniors and finished off its home dual meet season with a victory by outdistancing River Ridge in this non-league meet at the YMCA of Grays Harbor.

The Bobcats put three of their seniors — Seth Caba, Keegan Shippey and Brandon Grigsby — in the winning 200-yard freestyle relay. Caba and Shippey met up with Dustin Young and Robbie Lewis to win the 400 free relay to cap the meet.

“I thought the guys did especially well,” AHS head coach Rebecca Rowe said. “Even though they came off a good meet on Saturday, there were still a few time drops. It was a good meet for the seniors and a good final home meet, so I’m really excited to see what everyone does on Thursday at Capital.”

Levi Rose won two events, diving with a 134.75 score and the 100 fly, to lead the Bobcats. Young and Lewis each won one individual event — Young in the 50 free and Lewis in the 200 individual medley — to drive the hosts.

Rowe cited John Jugum for his time drop in the 200 IM, Jaren Paris for his district-qualifying time in the 100 fly and his near-miss in the 100 back and Sam Scroggs for his time drop in the 100 breast.

On Thursday, Aberdeen travels to Evergreen State College to take on Capital and River Ridge in a combination invitational/sub-district meet.

Chitwhins 68, Wildcats 63

WESTPORT — Keanu Curleybear poured through 13 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to rally Taholah past Ocosta in a non-league game Monday at Westport.

The Chitwhins (7-5) trailed by seven at the three-quarter mark. Curleybear, however, hit 4-of-5 field-goal attempts (including a pair of 3-pointers) and 3-of-4 free throws to spark Taholah’s comeback.

“He came through us big for us in the fourth quarter,” Taholah assistant coach Eric Capoeman affirmed.

Curleybear also had 11 rebounds and six assists. Jimmy Smith-Kramer added 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Taholah, while Dustin Stewart pulled down six offensive rebounds and handed out three assists.

Caleb Tackett topped the Wildcats with 21 points and 15 rebounds. James Benn contributed 14 boards and Dan Sobrera handed out six assists for Ocosta (9-9).

Ocosta coach Jason Quinby said his team was guilty of poor execution, particularly in the fourth quarter.

“We had 20 turnovers tonight and I would venture to say that at least 12 were unforced,” Quinby said. “We’ve got to get better at learning how to win.”

Both teams are in action tonight, with Taholah hosting North Beach and Ocosta visiting Naselle.
