RICHLAND — Unable to repeat a comeback from the previous day, Montesano bowed out of the State 9-10 Little League Baseball Tournament on Monday.
West Valley of Yakima eliminated Monte, 13-3, at Richland.
Struggling with 105-degree heat, Montesano dropped its state opener to Federal Way, 11-1, on Saturday.
The District III champions rallied from a 5-0 deficit to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament with a 6-5 win over West Seattle on Sunday.
Monte tied that contest with a five-run fifth. After three walks loaded the bases in the sixth, Jack Anderson lofted a sacrifice fly that scored Jayden McElravy with the winning run.
Christian Prall, Jackson Busz and twins Isaac and Isaiah Pierce delivered hits against West Valley. Montesano manager Mike Prall cited the starting pitching of Dylan Schoch.
Montesano’s victory Sunday was the third time it had come from behind for a post-season victory.
“It was exciting to come over here and represent Montesano in the tournament,” Mike Prall said. “I thought we competed well. I’m very proud of their effort and heart.”
