Monte girls complete 20-0 regular season

ROCHESTER — Jordan Spradlin powered a critical third-quarter surge as Montesano’s girls completed a 20-0 regular season by beating Rochester, 54-36, in an Evergreen 1A League basketball finalé on Thursday night at Rochester.

The Bulldogs (12-0, 20-0), who had previously clinched the undisputed league championship, will open district play Thursday at Chehalis against an as-yet undetermined opponent.

Freshman post Spradlin led all scorers Thursday with 22 points. She also pulled down 13 rebounds.

Junior point guard Megan Choate added 17 points, five steals and five assists for the Bulldogs, while Cortney Miller contributed seven rebounds.

Although ahead most of the way, the Bulldogs saw a 15-point lead dwindle to seven midway through the third quarter before they erupted for a 24-point quarter that broke it open.

“We were able to get the ball inside to Jordan, who had 13 of her points in the third quarter,” Monte coach Julie Graves reported. “We made our big run in the second half of the third quarter.”

The Bulldogs owned a 47-28 bulge entering the final period.

Keeli Demers topped Rochester with 12 points.
