Montesano Bulldogs edge Hoquiam Bombers to win USSSA state 12-U

FIFE — The Montesano Bulldogs came out of the losers bracket to capture the USSSA 12-U Class B softball championship last weekend at Dacca Park in Fife.

The Bulldogs swept the previously unbeaten Hoquiam VFW Bombers, 10-4 and 10-2, in the title round. Five of the nine entrants hailed from Grays Harbor, with the Grays Harbor Lady Bearcats, Dominators and Jacknut Pride also competing.

Montesano opened the tournament by beating the Lady Bearcats, 15-3 and Jacknut Pride, 15-1, before dropping its first meeting with the Bombers, 6-1, in the winners bracket final of the double-elimination tournament.

The Bulldogs then downed United, 8-5, to advance to the title round.

Team members included Payton Kersker, Abi Parkin, Keilani Backholm, Paige Lisherness, Matti Ekerson, Emma Jensen, Lindsay Pace, Zoee Lisherness, Jessica Stanfield, Carley Bradbury and Riley Thoemmes. The team was coached by Kyle Parkin, Pat Pace, Joey Kersker and Sara Badgley.
