Montesano loses to King’s Way Christian in tennis

VANCOUVER — King’s Way Christian swept the singles to nip Montesano, 3-2, in a Southwest Washington 1A League girls tennis match Monday at the Green Meadows Tennis Club.

Both Montesano doubles teams remained unbeaten for the season.

Bailey Malizia and Elizabeth Taborski swept past Megan Landstrom-Samantha Kolb in straight sets. That duo has yet to drop a set this season.

Monte’s No. 1 doubles team of April Easter and Katie Ayres, in contrast, was pushed to three sets for the first time this season before outlasting Kayli Gridi and Heidi Fronk, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Bulldog duo overcame a shaky start to prevail.

“It’s a good thing for them to be tested and for them to not play their best and still pull out a win,” Montesano coach Theresa Helland noted.

The Bulldogs, 3-3 in league, make the long trip to Stevenson on Wednesday.

Jasmine Nesbitt (KW) def. Ally McHatton, 6-0, 6-2; Amy Schneider (KW) def. Hunter Hancock, 6-3, 6-2; Rachel Warren (KW) def. Gillen Reinertsen, 6-2, 6-1; April Easter-Katie Ayres (M) def.
