Montesano teams thump Forks in doubleheader

MONTESANO — The unbeaten Montesano girls basketball team cruised in the nightcap of this Evergreen 1A doubleheader against Forks on Tuesday night, which started with the Monte boys finding their shooting touch in the opener.

The boys scored the most points they have scored in the first half this season — 31 — to take control of this league matchup, 51-35, at Bo Griffith Memorial Gym.

In the nightcap, the girls were in full control and kept the visiting Spartans to single-digit scoring while they rotated through their bench in a 61-19 win.

Senior Kenny Roy led all scorers with 17 points and Kaleb Chastain and Jake Herzog added 10 points each to lead Montesano past Forks.

A 31-20 halftime lead was all the Bulldogs (2-2, 6-5) needed on the night and it gave them some confidence after a string of slow offensive starts in league.

“That’s the most points we’ve put in for the first half,” Montesano head coach Doug Galloway said. “The kids were moving the ball, getting good shots. It worked well. I was really excited about it.”

Monte lost sophomore guard Logan Truax to an injury in the first quarter and Galloway cited his team for playing through the loss of Truax in the backcourt.
