Montesano wins opener in Division Legion tourney


OLYMPIA — Riley Olsen pitched a one-hitter as Precision Pipe of Montesano upended top-seeded Olympia, 13-0, in the opening round of the Region II American Legion AA Divisional Tournament on Friday at Olympia High School.

Jordan Bussard led Precision’s 14-hit attack with a double and two singles. Sawyer Rhoden, Cole Nelson, Kyle Englund and Jacob Hliboki contributed two hits apiece, with Maguire Cavanaugh adding a double.

Hliboki was cited by Precision manager Mike Bruner for his defense at third base.

Precision will face Centralia at 6 p.m. today. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the top four teams advancing to state competition in Spokane.

Precision Pipe had qualified for the divisional tourney with a 22-9 victory over Olympic on Tuesday.
