Oakland, Calif. — Friday’s contest between the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics has been postponed due to poor field conditions at O.co Coliseum.
It’s the second time this season the A’s have had a game postponed. Oakland’s second game of the season was postponed due to inclement weather, causing the first rain-out in Oakland since May 5, 1998 vs. Detroit.
The infield at O.co Coliseum, which has been criticized for its drainage problems in the past, was deemed unplayable on Friday following rain in the area throughout the day.
A makeup date for the game has not been announced.
Chris Young was slated to make his first start since 2012 for Seattle, while Dan Straily was set to toe the rubber for the A’s in the second test of this four-game series.
Oakland won the opener, 3-2, on Coco Crisp’s leadoff homer in the bottom of the 12th inning on Thursday.
Hector Noesi has been designated for assignment and right-hander Dominic Leone has been selected from Class AAA Tacoma and placed on the roster.
The team now has 10 days to trade, outright or release Noesi. I’m sure you all have thoughts on that.
Leone was drafted in the 16th round of the 2012 draft. He was a starting pitcher at Clemson and was converted to a reliever.
