Chokers close out season today

Grays Harbor College will conclude its men’s and women’s basketball seasons today by hosting Lower Columbia College in a coed doubleheader at Aberdeen’s Sam Benn Gym.

The women’s game is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the men to follow at 7.

Elma’s Colard leads Western Washington women

Elma High School graduate Katie Colard scored 20 points to lead Western Washington to a 91-65 victory over Alaska-Fairbanks in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Thursday at Fairbanks.

Colard, a junior guard, made 6-of-9 attempts from 3-point range.

Monte Little League tryouts due this weekend

Montesano Little League tryouts are scheduled for today and Sunday at Beacon Elementary School. In the event of inclement weather, the tryouts will be shifted to the Montesano Junior High gym.

Players are required to attend only one of the turnouts. The tryout schedule per age group:


8-9 age group — 10 a.m. today and 12:30 p.m. Sunday. 10-year-olds — 11 a.m. today and 1 p.m.


11-12 age group — 12:15 p.m. today and 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

Baseball umpires to meet

The Grays Harbor Baseball Umpires Association will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday in the upstairs portion of Top Foods Grocery.

Those interested in umpiring high school baseball this spring are encouraged to attend. Further information may be obtained by contacting Bill McClelland at 249-5497.

Elma parents meeting slated

An Elma High School spring sports parents meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the high school commons. Attendance is advised for parents of students intending to turn out for spring sports.
