Trio nabs Bank of Pacific title

The team of Dan Meldrich, Matt Tanselli and Kris Liedtke, all of the host club, won the Bank of the Pacific Scramble golf championship last weekend at Grays Harbor Country Club.

A blistering final round enabled the Meldrich-Tanselli-Liedtke trio to prevail with a 124 total, one stroke ahead of the Steve Solan-Doug Schermer-Rob Melchoirs team.

The 36-hole scramble tourney benefits the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation. The final standings:

Quarter Midgets to race at Elma

The I-5 Quarter Midget Club will host its annual Mudslinger Shootout this weekend at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds’ mini-track.

The event attracts racing families from the Pacific Northwest and Canada. The Fairgrounds has one of the few quarter midget dirt track on the West Coast north of California.

Racing begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

Sand wins final subdistrict junior tourney

John Sand of Hoquiam won his age group at the final Washington Junior Golf Association subdistrict tournament on Monday at the Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club at Union.

Competing in the boys 14-15 age group, Sand carded a final-round 72 for a three-stroke victory over Gabriel Barnes of Olympia.

Sand and Aberdeen’s Eric Hagen have qualified for the district tournament July 21-22 at the Whispering Firs Golf Course at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Lauryn Keating competes in Junior World golf

Lauryn Keating of Elma is currently tied for 47th in her division after two rounds of the Callaway Junior World golf tournament at San Diego.

Competing in the girls 15-17 division, Keating added a 74 on Wednesday to her opening-round 77 at the Torrey Pines course. Thailand’s Jaravee Boonchant leads the division with a 135 total.

The field will be cut to the top 40 and ties after today’s third round. The tourney concludes Friday.

Markishtum takes Oly canoe races

Season points leader Stanley Markishtum of Taholah swept both main events in the Black Lake Regatta outboard canoe races last weekend near Olympia.

Piloting the Valerie Lee, Markishtum won Saturday’s race, with Todd Pickernell second and Dean Johnstone third. Markishtum and Pickernell also went 1-2 on Sunday, with Archie Howard third.

Pickernell moved into second place behind Markishtum in the season standings. Darren Sansom, Howard and Johnstone round out the top five. Racing resumes next weekend at La Push.
