Bobcat hoop awards announced

Junior guard Addam Follett received the Most Valuable Player award at the Aberdeen High School boys basketball dessert last week.

Follett, the Bobcats’ leading scorer, received second-team all-Evergreen 2A Conference recognition.

Victor Pavletich Inspirational Award — Lorenzo Ontiveros. Bob Basich Memorial Award — Austin Floch. JV Offensive MVP — Victor Gomez. JV Defensive MVP — Josh Collett. JV Coaches Award — Eric Hagen. C Squad MVP — Miles Devine. C Squad Coaches Award — Zach Williamson. Top Scholar Athlete Awards — Cole Edwards, Braden Castleberry-Taylor, Jake Metke, Ryan Solan (all 4.0 grade point averages).

Bobcat coach Leonard Barnes expressed appreciation to players, coaches, volunteers and fans for their effort and support this past season.

Hoquiam fastpitch signups, clinic scheduled

Hoquiam Girls Fastpitch Association registration is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the YMCA of Grays Harbor. Registration is open to girls in the 6-16 age group throughout Grays Harbor and Pacific counties.

The Association is offering a free clinic Saturday at the Hoquiam High School gym. The clinic will run from 10-11 a.m. for players in the 8 and under age group and from 11 a.m. to noon for girls in the 10-12 age group. Registration will also be accepted at the clinic.

Chokers sign two for baseball

Hoquiam High School senior Sammy Lowder and Alaska standout Nick Jensen have signed baseball letters of intent with Grays Harbor College, GHC coaches Tim Wahl and Vern Goodenough reported.

Lowder was an all-Evergreen 1A League pitcher for Hoquiam last season. Jensen is a pitcher-shortstop for Alaska state champion South Anchorage. Jensen pitched in the Arizona Fall Classic, striking out eight in four innings against the Under Armour national team.

Elma Babe Ruth tryouts set

Elma Babe Ruth tryouts are scheduled for Saturday at Eagle Field.

Tryouts in the 14-15 age group are scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m, with 13-year-olds trying out from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Participation in a tryout session is mandatory for those wishing to play this season. Those intending to play but unable to attend Saturday’s session should contact Steve Luellen at 482-5592 (between 5 and 8 p.m. only) no later than Wednesday. Luellen is also available to answer other questions about the league.

Monte Little League seeks umps

The Montesano Little League is seeking umpires to officiate major league games this season.

A training session is scheduled for Aberdeen later this month. Those interested are asked to email montesanolittleleague@gmail.com.
