District 1A softball pairings set

Opening-round pairings have been set for the District IV Class 1A Softball Tournament on Wednesday at Centralia’s Fort Borst Park.

Evergreen 1A League champion Montesano will face Kalama and Rochester will take on Woodland at 10 a.m. Hoquiam opposes Stevenson and Elma meets La Center at noon.

Halibut fishing to close

Halibut fishing in the Westport-Ocean Shores area will close Monday, the Washington Department of Fish &Wildlife reported.

Fish &Wildlife officials said that the season’s Pacific halibut harvest quota is projected to be reached by Sunday.

A separate quota set aside is sufficient to continue halibut fishing daily in the northern nearshore area near the Queets River.
