Bearcats on road today

The Grays Harbor Bearcats will begin a two-week road trip when they visit the Yakima Mavericks in a Pacific Football League game tonight. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Bearcats will visit the Seattle Stallions on June 21 before returning home to face the South King County Colts on June 28.

Kelly, Rose earn HHS track awards

Seniors Devin Kelly and Olivia Rose, who were among Hoquiam’s state champions, received the Most Valuable Player awards at the Grizzly track &field awards dinner recently.

Montesano hoop camp due next week

The Montesano Basketball Camp begins Tuesday at Montesano High School’s Bo Griffith Gym.

Open to incoming third through eighth-grade boys and girls, the camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday. Montesano High School varsity coaches Julie Graves and Doug Galloway will conduct the camp, assisted by other members of the Bulldog staff and current Montesano High players.

Registration will be accepted at the door, but must be accompanied by the $30 per student fee, a completed registration form and the signature of a parent or guardian. The registration fee includes the cost of a T-shirt. Further information may be obtained by contacting Graves or Galloway at the high school, 249-4041.

South Bend spring athletes honored

Dennis Johnson and Emily Sanchez received the Merle Millam awards, while state high jump champion Makenzie Russell earned the Sheena Jarvi Memorial award at the South Bend High School track &field banquet recently.

Other South Bend track and golf awards:

Track: Inspirational — Marcos Perales, Kathryn Staats. Most Improved — Ashley Pearson, A.J. Sanchez. Coaches Awards — Kathryn Staats, Jose Bucio.

Golf: Medalists — Emma Lorton, Tyson Johnson.

Klein shares Ocean Shores golf title

Gretchen Klein of Grays Harbor Country Club teamed with Annette Seydel of High Cedars Golf Club in Orting to win the gross championship of the Ocean Shores Ladies Golf Classic last week at Ocean Shores Golf Course.

Klein and Seydel combined for a 77. Kathy Sorgenfrei and Linda Stewart from Gig Harbor took low net honors with a 56. Other division winners:

First Division: Gross — Patty Myers-Sandy Luze 79. Net — Nancy Ludwig-Melanie Bickar 61, Paula Cratzer-Julie Brumfield 61. Second Division: Gross — Charlotte Manwell-Nancy Hale 91. Net — Sue Skinner-Patty Cook 58, Cheri Diehl-Rita Smith 59.
