District 1B tourneys to conclude Saturday
The District IV Class 1B boys and girls basketball tournaments will conclude Saturday with a tripleheader at Montesano.
Wishkah’s and Taholah’s boys will meet in a winner-to-regionals, loser-out game scheduled for 2 p.m.
Taholah and Mary M. Knight will clash in the girls championship game at 4 p.m. Oakville will face Three Rivers Christian for the boys title at 6 p.m.
All four of the district finalists are assured of regional berths.
Montesano girls move up in rankings
Montesano’s girls moved up to fifth in the Class 1A girls portion of the weekly Associated Press high school basketball poll released Wednesday.
Willapa Valley’s girls are eighth among Class 2B girls.
Willapa Valley’s boys are fifth and North Beach eighth in the state Class 2B boys rankings.
Final Monte LL registration, tryouts due
The Montesano Little League’s final registration session is scheduled from 6 to 8 tonight at the Nelson Field clubhouse.
Players new to the league must supply a copy of the child’s birth certificate. Three proof-of-residency items are required for players in the 10-12 age group, with one such item needed for players in the 4-9 age group. Medical insurance information is also required. The registration fee is $55 per player.
Tryouts are planned for Saturday and Sunday at Beacon Elementary School. They will be moved indoors to Montesano Junior High in the event of inclement weather.
The tryout times: 8-9 age group — 10 a.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday. 10-year-olds — Noon Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. 11-12 age group — 12:15 p.m. Saturday and 11:45 a.m. Sunday.
Softball umpires to meet
The Grays Harbor Softball Umpires Association will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the upstairs portion of Top Foods grocery in Aberdeen.
Returning and prospective new umpires are encouraged to attend. Further information may be obtained by contacting Ken Juarez at 589-6863.
Montesano Ruth, Legion tryouts set
Montesano Babe Ruth and American Legion Class A tryouts are scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday in the Bowers Batting Cage building at Montesano High School.
The tryouts are open to players in the 13-15 age group (as of April 30). Prospective candidates are required to bring their own equipment and shoes for both indoor and outdoor field conditions.
