Quarter Midget racing due at Elma

A quarter midget racing event is due Jan. 11-12 at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds Pavilion arena.

Juniors, between the ages of 5 and 16, have been invited to join the I-5 Quarter Midget Racing Club for some practice laps Jan. 11. The practice sessions is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m.

No experience is necessary but a $10 fee will be charged to cover insurance requirements. Spectator admission is free.

The professional quarter midget racers have planned their annual Winter Blast from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 12. Admission to this event is also free.

Fisher signs new contract with Seminoles

Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher has officially signed a new five-year contract, the school announced Tuesday.

The top-ranked Seminoles will play No. 2 Auburn in the BCS National Championship game on Jan. 6.

Fisher had been rumored to be a candidate for the head-coaching position at Texas.

Fisher has compiled a 44-10 record in four seasons since replacing the legendary Bobby Bowden.
